No metric no on I-19

Trivia for you:  I-19 is the only freeway in the US with mileage in metric.  It’s also the cause of a lot of xenophobia if you check out the comments on the Star’s webpage.

And one more thing… is this article calling Mexico hell?

It doesn’t matter if the road to Hades is paved with good intentions. What counts is whether it’s signed in metric or miles.

After years of intermittent gripes about the freeway from Tucson to Nogales using metric on signs showing distance to cities or exits, the state decided to use $1.5 million in federal stimulus funds to replace the signs with shiny new ones showing miles.

I saw the use of the metric system on I-19 not as the end, but as a hopeful beginning.
